Workshop facilities
Fellside wood studio is a converted Lake District bank barn ie. it was built into the slope of the hillside to create a basement and an upper floor both accessible at ground level. The building has been re-roofed and re-floored creating a machining area below and a spacious open bench room on the top floor. This area is intended to be as flexible as possible and this is where the courses take place.
Benches have been made especially for the courses and each student will have his or her own bench and storage area. We encourage students to bring their own tools if they have them but we have plenty for everyone here and expect everyone to try out the full range during the course.
We have a good range of power tools most of which are from Festool, the very best available. These work well with our Festool extractors to keep a clean and healthy working environment. We also have air filters to keep dust completely under control.
We have a good range of hand tools from reasonably priced traditional brands like Marples and Stanley through to the elite quality of Lie-Nielson. Students can see the differences and decide for themselves which suit them. The main difference between the cheaper brands and the most expensive is that the latter will work perfectly straight from the box whereas cheaper tools will require time and effort before they are able to achieve similar results.
As a working furniture workshop we have a wide range of router cutters, drill bits, abrasives, adhesives and finishes in stock.
